About the Series

Pawsitive Tails is a Children’s Book Series based upon real kids and real dogs meeting life’s opportunities with courage and fun. The inspiration to write the series developed over time.

It all began several years ago when the author’s young son was hospitalized with a serious illness. Never leaving the bedside, the entire family experienced a time of worry and helplessness. Day five, which began as another emotional day, suddenly became much brighter with a visit from the hospital’s therapy dog team. A pleasant surprise visit that included a wagging tail and fluffy ears brought a piece of happiness, hope and new energy to the son and to the entire family. It was on that day that SuZanne Rogers committed to herself that she too would someday provide support and kindness to others via Therapy Dog work.

The Journey

Years later, the step to become a Therapy Dog Team was completed. SuZanne and Golden Retriever, Grace, completed many levels of obedience and therapy training concluding with the honors of AKC’s Canine Good Citizen Certification and multiple levels of DomestiPups Therapy Dog Certifications. The second step included happily working hundreds of hours as a Therapy Dog Team in schools, nursing homes and hospitals. During this time, the desire to supplement therapy visits with an actual book developed. One summer evening during SuZanne’s son’s baseball game, the desire of writing a children’s picture book transformed from thought to action. Kathy ByarAbby Devin and Tammi Wald encouraged SuZanne to begin a book project to share her Pet Therapy experiences with families around the world. “I thank them for that wonderful nudge.” – SuZanne Rogers. The amazing project to write, illustrate and publish Pawsitve Tails began the next day.

The Pawsitive Tails Series is provided under the LLC, Character Counts. Established in 2011 with Grant and SuZanne Rogers as Co-Presidents, Character Counts LLC will focus on the creation and delivery of services  that expand character development, goodwill, skill growth and enjoyment.
